The analysis and mapping of the landforms is an useful tool for territorial management purposes, once it allows the identification of natural suitability of each landscape unit according to its limitations and potentialities. The alluvial and marine plains are formed by quaternary sediments, deposited in the Upper Pleistocene -Holocene interval. The inland surface presents a hilly relief sutentained by gneissic rocks in the west portion of the area. This tablelands are confined by steep scarped slopes of the "U" shaped carved valleys. The most of the area is occupied by the tablelands, sustained by sedimentary rocks of the Barreiras Group, related to the Pliocene age. This region comprises three (3) geomorphological units: Inland Surface Coastal Tablelands and Alluvial and Marine Plains. The study area is part of the so-called "Discovery Coast" and is located on the Southern portion of the Bahia State. Deforestement and intense pasture are the main causes of the land degradation. This study presents a geomorphological analysis including a classification of diferent degrees of erosion susceptibility of the Porto Seguro and Santa Cruz Cabrália municipalities.
